On April 20, 2017 the UFCW Union committee and negotiating team met with the company for the first scheduled bargaining meeting. The first set of meetings started off with a round of introductions before each party explained their proposal. The Union proposal, which was derived from a combination of best practices, WFC surveys and results from listening sessions was presented item by item to the company.

The Local will be hosting a fundraiser on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the UFCW Local 1189 Union Hall (266 Hardman Ave. N., South Saint Paul), to show support and raise funds for workers displaced by the Dakota Premium plant closure which left 275 workers out of work, and to assist the 125 workers from the Rainbow/Roundy’s sell off who were left without employment. All funds raised at the event will be used for emergency assistance, which will be administered by the AFL-CIO Community Services of the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation.
After considerable time, and a mediated discussion with President Seaquist and Secretary-Treasurer Christensen, the Employer group realized they would not be able to present a formal counter proposal to the Union. They requested a cancellation of the bargaining session on Tuesday, August 5 in order to develop a formal proposal that, according to the Employer group, may break the stalemate between the Union 20-hour threshold for Union health fund coverage and the Employer proposal of 30 hours.
The Retail Supermarket Industry Bargaining committees met Thursday, July 24 at Local 1189’s Union Hall in an effort to break the stalemate over competing proposals regarding our health insurance plan. The Union withdrew all its previous health insurance proposals and presented the Employer group with a new proposal that covered both health insurance and significant wage increases for all classifications. President Seaquist presented the proposal and explained our rationale for keeping it simple.
UFCW OUTreach is a constituency group dedicated to building mutual support between our union’s International, regions, and locals and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community and their allies in order to come together to organize for social and economic justice for all, regardless of age, race, gender, creed, color, sexual orientation, or gender identity. This year, UFCW 1189 OUTreach tabled at the Twin Cities Pride Festival for the first time. UFCW 1189 staff and members talked to festival goers about the benefits of being Union and buying Union.
