Call Now!! Tell Your Rep to Oppose Medicare Cuts!
It’s a new year, but House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Republican leaders in Congress are still singing the same old song about gutting Medicare benefits. A few days ago, The Hill newspaper reported that Ryan and House Republicans are prioritizing the dismantling of health care for millions of Americans—and that includes Medicare. They think, not sure why, they’ve got a mandate to destroy Medicare, despite the fact that poll after poll shows Americans oppose cuts to their earned Medicare benefits. This week, tens of thousands of people across the country will be joining a call-in day to Congress to demand their representative oppose cuts to Medicare.
It’s not just Republicans in Congress who are behind this disastrous plan. Two of President-elect Donald Trump’s top nominees—Reps. Tom Price (R-Ga.) for secretary of Health and Human Services and Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) for head of the White House budget office—have supported Paul Ryan’s plan to destroy Medicare.
Ryan’s plan, if implemented, would make seniors pay more but get less, plus it would raise the Medicare eligibility age. We can stop this from happening—there already are some Republicans who are getting nervous about supporting Medicare cuts—but only if we put pressure on our representatives to do the right thing.
