Local 1189 Supports NALC Food Drive

Anyone who has ever missed a meal knows negative effects of hunger, but did you know that 1 in 10 Minnesotans is at risk of missing a meal every day?  You can help.  On May 13, 2017, UFCW Local 1189 is partnering with our local letter carriers and Second Harvest Heartland for this year's Stamp Out Hunger food drive.  UFCW local Unions nationwide are participating in one of the country's most monumental and collaborative food drives.  "Our Local Union will be coordinating at two sites - Cub Foods in Oakdale and Cub Foods in Cottage Grove.  There, we will be unloading bags of food from mail trucks and reloading the donations into Second Harvest semi-trailers.  We invite the community to join us by filling a Stamp Out Hunger grocery bag and leaving it by their mailboxes on Saturday, May 13 for their local letter carrier to pick up and bring to our collection sites," said President Jennifer Christensen, who is also the site captain at the Oakdale Cub Foods.  Local 1189 Secretary-Treasurer Jim Gleb will be the site captain at the Cottage Grove Cub Foods location.

On Wednesday, May 10, Union Representative Al Priolo joined Super One Foods and the Duluth Letter Carriers as they kicked off this year's Stamp Out Hunger Drive at Super One in West Duluth.  To start things off, the store donated 11,000 pounds of food and $8000 to area food banks.

If you are unable to leave donations out for your mail carriers, you can also drop off at local Super One stores.
