MNMed Solution Cannabis Workers Ratify First Contract
St. Paul, MN -- On February 13, 2015 the State of Minnesota, Bureau of Mediation Services (Bureau), received a request from UFCW Local 1189 and Minnesota Medical Solutions, Edina, Minnesota asking the Bureau to conduct a card check to determine if Local 1189 had the required showing of interest to warrant certification based upon a card check. On Tuesday February 17, 2015 the Bureau conducted a card check and it was determined that the required showing has been submitted by Local 1189 through valid authorization cards to warrant certification of the bargaining unit described as: All current full-time and regular part-time employees employed by Minnesota Medical Solutions, Edina, Minnesota, who are eligible to join the unit under applicable law. Bureau of Mediation Services Commissioner Josh L. Tilsen signed the order certifying Local 1189 as the exclusive representative for the employees falling within the above-described bargaining unit.
Two days later, on February 19, 2015 the workers unanimously ratified their first Union Contract. In addition to the job protections and grievance procedure offered by a Union Contract, the workers will receive a wide range of guaranteed benefits: employer paid family health insurance, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement, paid vacations, holidays and sick time, and contributions to their 401A/K accounts, along with guaranteed wage rates and progression increases.
