Tentative Agreement Reached with Whole Foods Co-Op
UFCW Local 1189 members and Whole Foods Co-op reached a tentative agreement on Monday April 9, 2018. Negotiations started this time last year and although the 12-month process seemed lengthy and there was some heated discussion, both sides negotiated fairly and in good faith. The agreement, which is a 2-year deal, will be voted by the members on April 20, 2018 and comes with full committee recommendation. If approved and ratified, the agreement will provide improved wages, benefits, and working conditions for members as well as improvements to seniority language, more frequent pay periods, improved job bidding/promotion language and a voice in the workplace.
“I am very pleased with the agreement reached between Whole Foods Co-op and our Union. I believe we have installed a framework for equitable wages and a just work environment,” said Solomon Wilhelm, a produce clerk and bargaining committee member at the Co-op's Denfeld location. With better seniority and job bidding language, members who want to create and follow a career path at the Co-op will have a better opportunity to do so.” A voting document and highlight sheet will be made available soon.
