Super One Negotiations

2016 Contract Negotiations

Your Union Contract is a legal document that contains provisions related to workers' rights and benefits. Your contract is the result of bargaining between the Union and the Employer beginning with the Union's initial proposal and followed by negotiations on items that affect your job. UFCW Local 1189 is committed to keeping you involved and informed.  Regular updates will be available online and by email. (If you would like to receive email updates please contact the office to ensure we have your current email address). When a tentative agreement is reached (or when we receive the Employer's final offer) the Union will schedule a time for you to vote on the proposed changes to your contract. After a majority of voting employees approve their contract language it then goes into effect. If you have questions on the process, please contact your Union Representative.

Congratulations to the members covered by ARGA (Arrowhead Retail Grocers’ Alliance) Agreement on the ratification of their new contract! Membership participation in the vote was at its highest in recent memory. The Union bargaining committee credited the voting in worksite breakrooms as being the basis for the substantial increase in voter turnout. The 3-year contract passed with 72% Grocery and 69 % Meat 0f members voting to accept the new agreement.

UFCW Local 1189 and its negotiating committee members reached a tentative agreement with the northern retail grocery employers (ARGA) on July 21.  Ratification vote will be held on Monday, August 1, 2016 in the store breakrooms and the UFCW Local 1189 office at the Duluth Labor Temple at the times and locations listed below.  The contract comes with unanimous committee recommendation to vote YES to accept.  Please note that a no vote will be a vote to reject the offer and authorize a strike.  Only cast votes will be counted.

In the hours after the storm swept through Duluth leaving it without electricity, phone, or internet, the expanded Union Meat and Grocery Bargaining Committee met with the Employers in the dimly lit basement halls of Labor Temple.  With the assistance of the Federal Mediator, a newly crafted Tentative Agreement – unanimously endorsed by both the Meat and Grocery committee members – was reached.
