The negotiating committee has been working diligently to come up with a fair contract for all; however, the Employer and Union are at a stand still. After six meetings, we have moved some things out of the way, but very little and are challenged with health insurance. Essentia wants to move the bargaining unit to a far inferior plan at a higher cost. The Union is not willing to move at this point, but we are trying to come up with alternative solutions beyond wages that will ease the sting of the health care plan.

The Union and Miller Dwan met for negotiations on Wednesday, April 04, 2018. The Union gave the Employer their proposals. The Employer did not respond to any of the Union’s proposals. The Union is waiting for the next meeting for the Employer to give the Union their proposals. The next negotiations date is scheduled for April 10, 2018.
The Union and St Luke’s met for negotiations on Friday, March 23, 2018. This was our third session of negotiations. Things are moving along smoothly. Several Tentative Agreements (TAs) have been made with movement from both sides.
Some of the TAs include: higher experience credit for new hires, high census bonus for CNAs, and changing the minimum hours of pay for on-call members from three (3) hours to four (4) hours. We’ll be moving into the economics at our next Negotiations meeting on March 30, 2018. Stay tuned for more updates!

Union History: In 2002 I became a union member of SEIU and then in 2006 became a member of Local 1189. Before working for the Local, I was a member and worked at Lunds. I’ve been on staff since 2009.
Why do you do what you do?
I want to help the Union run as efficiently as possible. I also want to help the members resolve their problems or issues as quickly and smoothly as possible.
