Negotiations began with Prairie Community Services on September 6, 2018. The Union's negotiating committee includes Linda Haugen, Derek Hagen, Dawn Johnson, Jenna Peasley and Union Representative Tami Denn-Bauer. The Union and Employer exchanged and discussed contract proposals and were able to come to agreement on many language changes, which were mostly clean-up items. Economic proposals were presented and will be discussed at our next scheduled meeting(s), which will be held on September 26 and if needed, October 19. We will continue to update you as these negotiations progress.

The Cub Foods in Inver Grove Heights is the latest store to go through a remodel with new and improved features, including Cub's newest addition of its always fresh popcorn bar. The store is celebrating this grand reopening with give aways, drawings and free samples through April 25. This is the third Cub Foods store represented by Local 1189 to be remodeled in the past year. Local 1189 members are enthusiastic about their remodeled workplace and all it has to offer! Stop in and see it!!
After an extensive months-long remodel, the Cub Foods in Cottage Grove is celebrating their grand reopening this week. The remodel included an expanded deli department, new kitchen store, larger produce department, new pharmacy with drive-through service, and a seating area. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place this morning with the employees who are members of UFCW Local 1189, Cottage Grove community leaders and members as well as Cub and Super Valu corporate representatives.
Aziza Tahir, a part-time deli worker at the Cub Foods Midway store, signed up for voluntary payroll contributions to the UFCW Actve Ballot Club (ABC) and was automatically entered into a drawing. The UFCW ABC is our own political action fund, funded with voluntary contributions from our members (not dues money). ABC funds are used to support candidates and legislative initiatives that work for UFCW members and their families. Aziza won $250 in the drawing, but we all win when we support the UFCW ABC fund. Sign up today to be entered in the next drawing!

Union History: I have been a union member of OPEIU Local 12 since 1986 wherein I also filled the role of steward and negotiating committee member. I was hired by UFCW Local 1189 in September 2011. Prior to that, I worked for IAM District 143 for almost 25 years in an administrative capacity.
Why do you do what you do?
When I was hired in 1986 by the IAM, I had no knowledge nor experience with the labor movement. Today, I wouldn’t dream of working anywhere else but for a labor union. I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to work together with staff and representatives to achieve the same goals of representation for our members and justice for working families.
