Labor Against Cancer Kickoff

UFCW Locals 1189 and 653 joined together with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) representatives, as well as retail employers to kick off its Labor Against Cancer retail campaign on March 15 at LLS offices.  Labor Against Cancer is a movement to end the devastation of cancer, led by the passionate members of the United Food and Commercial Workers. The movement provides an opportunity for all organized labor to do what they do best, empower their membership to band together for the good of others in the communities where they work and live.  Leukemia remains the number one disease killer of children and young adults under the age of 19. Labor Against Cancer will raise much-needed funds to advance research and patient support in partnership with LLS while raising awareness of the important role that Union members play each and every day. Local 1189 member, steward and executive board member Dean Nelson (Cub Foods Midway employee) is a leukemia survivor and honored hero who spoke with media representatives and attendees at the event on his personal experience and benefit of LLS.  UFCW 1189-represented retail employers Cooper's, Cub Foods, Jerry's Cub Foods, Jerry's County Market, Jerry's Foods, Kowalski's Cub Meadowlands, Lunds & Byerlys and Oxendale's Market will be sponsoring the point of sale fundraising at its stores, encouraging their customers to donate $1 or more at checkout between March 17-31, 2018. Please support this fundraising effort and encourage family and friends to participate!Local 1189 President Jennifer Christensen, UFCW 1189 member, steward and executive board member Dean Nelson (Cub Foods Midway employee) and Cub Foods District Manager Bob IaconoDean Nelson with Union Advocate's Michael MooreCub Foods District Manager Bob Iacono with Dean Nelson
