At the 2013 International Convention, Local 1189 Union Representative Tamara Jones was elected to serve on the executive board of UFCW OUTReach, the newest constituency group for the UFCW focusing on GLBT workers.  Recently, UFCW OUTReach held its second executive board meeting and first annual lobby day in Washington, DC. Key topics on this agenda included how and why labor and GLBT political activists can work effectively together, informative presentations from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Pride@Work, the Victory Fund, training on developing diversity training for Union members, and a lunch with Wisconsin House of Representative member and an out and proud gay man, Mark Pocan.
Also discussed was the upcoming executive board meeting in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which is meeting during World Pride, which is also being held in Toronto. UFCW is hosting several events around Toronto during World Pride. In addition, UFCW OUTReach is working to charter their course to become an effective and strong representative of UFCW and its GLBT members.
