Union Tannery Workers Reach Tentative Agreement with Employer - Vote Scheduled
Union Tannery Workers at S.B. Foot Tanning in Red Wing have reached a tentative agreement with their employer. The contract proposal comes with a recommendation by 100% of the Union Negotiation committee to vote YES on the offer. The new agreement provides for employer paid health care, raises in each year of the Agreement and additional money in the second tier (lower) to bridge the gap between rates. All job classes will receive .50/hour increases each year of the three year contract, second tier wage rates will be increased by an additional .20/hour (.50 + .20) each year. The additional money will make significant progress toward the Union's goal of returning to one wage scale for all employees with rates based on the job class. Additional improvements to the wages include the creation of a new lead position (at $1 over the highest job class of the employees they are leading based on the tier 1 rate) and the movement of all color mill operators to tier 1 wage rate (regardless of date of hire). Other improvements include the ability to participate in the employer's dental plan (1/1/2020), beverages at work stations (policy), and prorated or improved vacation for new hires and employees with less than two years.
