Congratulations to UFCW Local 1189 members working at Cooper's Foods in St. Paul for ratifying a new agreement with their employer. The 1-year agreement, which will expire on April 6, 2020, includes wage increases and updated contract language.

UFCW Local 1189 will be at the Minnesota State Fair every day, Thursday, August 24 through Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Members interested in helping staff our kiosk will be given a free state fair entry ticket and a t-shirt, but must work a minimum of 4 hours. Last spring, job seekers from the East Side and St. Paul in general crowded into the East Side Freedom Library to meet dozens of union employers and resources for the first Union Job and Resource Fair. This year the event returns with a new line-up of employers and resources offering jobs, training opportunities, and helpful information. The second annual Union Job and Resource Fair will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2017 from 3:00-6:00pm at the East Side Freedom Library, 1105 Greenbrier Street, St. Paul, MN 55106.
Prepare + Prosper is a local nonprofit that provides free tax preparation, financial services, and financial coaching to individual and families. Their IRS-certified volunteers will get you the maximum refund. From January 21 to April 15, they operate eight tax sites in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Hopkins, and Bloomington. Union Representative and Director/Community Services
Union History: I have been a Union member for 30 years. I worked for Harmony Nursing Home, Pearson Candy Company, and Maplewood Good Samaritan Society. Before being hired on staff at Local 1189, I served as a Union steward and executive board member. In addition to being the Director of Community Services for the Local, I also am involved in the Trades and Labor Assembly and Seniors and Workers.
