Unanimous Committee Recommendation! After almost 8 months of bargaining and a marathon 14 hour session, our retail committee has reached a tentative agreement with Lunds/Byerly’s, Jerrys Cub and County Markets, Kowalskis Cub and Kowalski’s Markets and Festival Foods/Knowlans meat depts.
August 14 is Primary Day in Minnesota. It is important that we make the voice of the UFCW heard. The Union Executive Board has endorsed candidates like Tim Walz and Keith Ellison for office based on how their support of working family issues, Unions and Union organizing, UFCW industries, and issues that are important to our members. We have a diverse membership in spanning the farthest reaches of the state and in industries that vary from grocery stores to nursing homes, hospitals to packing houses, medical cannabis to french fry production. We need to keep Unions strong in Minnesota and we have endorsed candidates that we believe will do just that. Here is a list of the candidates we have endorsed:

Just before midnight on September 29, 2014 the Union and the following employers: Lunds/Byerly’s, Jerry's Enterprises (Jerry’s Cub and County Markets), Knowlan's Festival, and Kowalski's (Kowalski’s Markets and Kowalski’s Cub) reached a tentative agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Noticeably absent was Corporate Cub, who left bargaining mid-day.
Three informational meetings have been scheduled for Thursday, October 2 at 8:00am, 2:00pm, & 6::00pm at the UFCW 1189 Union Hall in South St. Paul.
On September 18, 2014 and September 19, 2014, the bargaining committee met with your Employer. Most of our discussion was on health care insurance -- about keeping your current plan with a significant premium increase or going to an HRA plan with a high deductible. Wages were also discussed. Both Labor and Management could not reach an agreement. The Union and the Employer have signed a contract extension and have contacted a mediator. Our next negotiation session is scheduled for October 14, 2014 with the mediator present.
After a 13-hour marathon bargaining session on September 24, no agreement has yet been reached. The Employer group spent most of the day struggling to develop a part-time pay progression that would meet the expectations of our bargaining committee and membership. Late in the evening the Union presented the Employers with a health insurance proposal that included new revenue and a reduction in future plan expenses.
