Attention Former Rainbow Foods Members August 14, 2014 The Dislocated Workers Program completed their second day of meetings with the Rainbow Committee today. Members from the Rainbow stores in 1189 and 653 make up the committee. Tomorrow, the committee will be selecting a 'provider" to assist unemployed Rainbow workers transition into new jobs and careers. Once the provider is selected, letters will go out to the former Rainbow employees from both Locals. Please keep your eyes on your mailbox!

It has been awhile since we have met with the ARGA employers and thought it was time to inform everyone of what has happened since the June meeting. Also there is no Northern Division general membership mMeeting during the month of August.

The Local will be hosting a fundraiser on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the UFCW Local 1189 Union Hall (266 Hardman Ave. N., South Saint Paul), to show support and raise funds for workers displaced by the Dakota Premium plant closure which left 275 workers out of work, and to assist the 125 workers from the Rainbow/Roundy’s sell off who were left without employment. All funds raised at the event will be used for emergency assistance, which will be administered by the AFL-CIO Community Services of the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation.
After considerable time, and a mediated discussion with President Seaquist and Secretary-Treasurer Christensen, the Employer group realized they would not be able to present a formal counter proposal to the Union. They requested a cancellation of the bargaining session on Tuesday, August 5 in order to develop a formal proposal that, according to the Employer group, may break the stalemate between the Union 20-hour threshold for Union health fund coverage and the Employer proposal of 30 hours.
