August 14 is Primary Day in Minnesota. It is important that we make the voice of the UFCW heard. The Union Executive Board has endorsed candidates like Tim Walz and Keith Ellison for office based on how their support of working family issues, Unions and Union organizing, UFCW industries, and issues that are important to our members. We have a diverse membership in spanning the farthest reaches of the state and in industries that vary from grocery stores to nursing homes, hospitals to packing houses, medical cannabis to french fry production. We need to keep Unions strong in Minnesota and we have endorsed candidates that we believe will do just that. Here is a list of the candidates we have endorsed:

10/6/14 – UFCW 1189 members voted overwhelmingly to ratify new agreements with Lund/Byerly’s, Kowalski’s, Jerry’s and Festival - with 87% of voting members saying YES! Congratulations to the Committee for their hard work and to the membership for their support of the new agreement. The Union extends its appreciation to these employers for taking the time to listen to their workers and respond with an agreement that works for our members.

Just after 7:30PM, our Super Valu bargaining committee reached a tentative agreement with their employer. This agreement covers the Corporate Cub stores and SV owned Rainbow banner stores. This agreement is the same as the rest of the industry which reached agreement earlier this week. Voting for Corporate Cub Stores will take place on Thursday October 9. The Employer's offer comes with full committee recommendation to VOTE YES! Voting will be held all day at the Union hall and an hour in each store breakroom (schedule to be posted).

Lakeshore reached tentative agreement with UFCW Local 1189 on its wage reopener today. After a very jovial negotiating session, the parties came away with a 1.25% increase for all workers, on and off scale, a $0.60-$0.70 increase to the start rate for all categories, and a $0.05 longevity increase per hour worked for all employees who have worked there ten years or more. The committee recommends a yes vote.  Voting will take place within the next two weeks. Congratulations to both parties!

After months of negotiations with the ARGA employers, the contract was ratified by the members on September 30, 2014 by a 3:1 margin in both the meat and grocery contracts!
