Cub Metro Bargaining Update

UFCW 1189 bargaining committee members met with the Employer yesterday, 9/16/2026. There were no changes to the terms of the agreement, but we were able to retain backpay dated to April 5 if the contract is ratified.

The agreement remains unanimously recommended by the bargaining committee. 

Leading into this meeting with UNFI, we held member meetings to hear from you. There was a lot of confusion expressed around the terms of the agreement and a request for simplified documents that could better explain the terms. It has always been incredibly important to us to provide complete transparency to our membership and have distributed and posted raw redline language for the contract changes so members could see the exact changes and language that would be in the new contract. However, we recognize the need to also provide an easier-to-read summary of changes and to make sure you receive as much communication and information as possible about the contract you are voting on. 

To make sure that communication happens, we pulled the members of the bargaining committee off their work schedule not only for the day of bargaining, but for the following two days as well. They stayed after the meeting to draft communication and flyers to distribute to their fellow members and have face-to-face conversations in the stores. They have been out in the stores since Wednesday afternoon, and you may have spoken to them already. They will be in every single store at least 4 times through Friday. They are recording your feedback and making sure it gets back to us. 

We will determine a date to schedule a vote on the agreement next week and will make sure to communicate that date face-to-face in the stores, via email, and on our website.
