Super One/Mount Royal Bargaining Update 3/28/25
This week we met again with the representatives of Super One and Mount Royal for contract negotiations. While negotiations have been slow going thus far, we have accomplished a few quality-of-life victories that many of the members had requested. We have agreed that all Super Once employees will receive, in addition to their first free shirt at the time of hire, an additional shirt every year on their anniversary. This has been an ongoing request from the members and though a small victory, it is a meaningful one for many of the members who cannot afford to purchase additional uniforms. We have also reached agreement on the practice of combining two 15-minute breaks to take a single 30-minute paid break. This is at the discretion of the member, and still needs to be approved by the department head on a case-by-case basis, but this new flexibility was a quality-of-life improvement that many members had asked for. Both of these tentative agreements will be part of the deal that members will vote on when negotiations are completed.
As it always is, the largest concern of the membership this time around is maintenance of the healthcare benefit and wage increases. As prices for housing and food continue to rise, our members need to see meaningful raises in this contract, and along with the bargaining committee we continue to fight for those increases. The progress has been slow to this point. The cost of providing healthcare is ever increasing and bargaining for raises from the Employer is never easy. We will continue to bargain and fight for the benefits and pay that our members at Super One and Mount Royal deserve.
