UFCW 1189 President Jim Gleb Announces Retirement
A Message from President Jim Gleb to UFCW 1189 Members:
Today, Monday, June 24, 2024, I am announcing to my fellow UFCW 1189 sisters and brothers my retirement effective August 31, 2024. Having served as your President for three years and having been on staff at four UFCW Locals (1105, 21, 1116, & 1189) since 1988 and as a member starting at UFCW 789 in 1973 at Country Club Markets in St Paul, it has been an amazing 51 years. I thank you all for the privilege of working with you from St. Paul to Seattle and back.
Now, it is with great honor that I inform the members of UFCW 1189 that the membership nominated Union Representative Adam Evenstad for President, Union Representative and Political/Legislative Affairs Director Diana Tastad-Damer for Secretary Treasurer, and Union Representative and incumbent Tami Denn-Bauer for Recording Secretary. Along with the slate of Executive Board Members, they all were elected by acclimation.
Together, your newly-elected leadership will lead UFCW 1189 into the future continuing this Local’s strong legacy of getting our members the very best contracts by having members involved in the bargaining process, working to build a high-quality membership-driven Union steward program, and organizing the unorganized – while always learning and preparing for the inevitability of the next obstacle.
Adam, Diana, and Tami, along with an amazingly dedicated staff of Union Representatives, Organizers, Administrative Assistants, and UFCW 1189 members, know the future is not yet written. As Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do little, together we can do much.”
In Solidarity,
Jim
